Privacy Policy
Shell Pilot is a macOS terminal. It is sold two ways: on the Mac App Store as "Shell Pilot Terminal", and as a direct download from this site. This policy covers both, and this website.
What stays on your Mac
Everything you do in the terminal stays on your Mac: commands, output, command history, session names, folders, autocomplete data, and SSH hosts and files. None of it is sent to us. Autocomplete, session naming and command search run locally.
Voice dictation uses Apple's on-device speech recognition only. Audio is not recorded, stored or sent anywhere. Shell Pilot refuses to dictate in a language that has no on-device model rather than fall back to a server.
Connections you make from the terminal, such as ssh, curl or git, go directly from your Mac to the servers you choose. Shell Pilot does not proxy or record them.
Mac App Store version
The App Store version collects no data. It makes no network requests of its own: no analytics, no crash reporting, no update checks and no licence checks. Apple handles purchases and may share sales and crash reports with us under Apple's privacy policy and only if you allow it in macOS settings.
Direct-download version
The direct-download version contacts shell-pilot.web.app for two things:
- Update checks. It downloads a public list of versions, at most once every 12 hours. The request carries no personal data. Our host, Google Firebase, logs the IP address of every request as standard server logs.
- Licence activation. When you activate or revalidate a licence, the app sends your email address and licence key to confirm the licence is valid.
When you buy the direct-download version, payment is handled by Stripe. We never see your card details. To issue and verify your licence we store your email address, the name you gave at checkout, the licence key, and Stripe's session and payment identifiers in Google Firebase (Firestore). We use them only to deliver, verify and support your licence, and to process a refund if you ask for one.
This website
The site has no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. It loads fonts from Google Fonts and icons from unpkg.com, and those services receive your IP address when they serve the files. Firebase Hosting keeps standard request logs.
Sharing
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not share it except with the processors named above (Stripe, Google Firebase) to run the service, or when the law requires it.
Retention and your rights
Licence records are kept for as long as the licence exists, so you can reactivate it. You can ask us to see, correct or delete your data at any time. Deleting a licence record means the licence can no longer be activated.
Children
Shell Pilot is a developer tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
